The video explores the lost but never-forgotten steppes of Eastern Ukraine. It reflects on the uneven flow of history and the representation of the natural landscape in times of ecological, military, and humanitarian crises.

The name of the project quotes word for word from the Google Maps review of some industrial establishments in Ukraine. The user Volodymyr Zhdanov comments about the plant in Mariupol: “The Azovstal is gradually turning into a steppe with rabbits and pheasants running around, and where some even saw foxes.” This short video reflects on the historical transformation of the Donbas region’s landscape during industrialisation and imagines a utopian return to its natural state. Filmed in 2020 at the Stone Tombs National Reserve, located an hour’s drive from Mariupol, the reserve has been under Russian occupation since 2022.
