20 mln years ago, a volcano eruption on Lesbos island (Greece) led to a fossilization of a forest, the only fossil forest in the world with some standing trees. One of the species recognized in the fossils is an ancestor of black pine - still growing on the island, but threatened by phenomena linked to climate change such as frequent fires. The story shows how to conserve the species biodiversity and prevent its loss.
