Labocine Invites Filmmakers to Apply for “Chimera Experiments”

Labocine and Imagine Science Films invite filmmakers to apply to produce a chapter of Chimera Experiments, a feature-length anthology film with segments linked through stories from the most influential scientists of our time. The film will premiere at the 10th anniversary New York Imagine Science Film Festival in October 2017.

The theme of “Chimera Experiments” is evolution in its natural and artificial forms — the deliberate and random modifications of an organism. It’s a commentary about advances in genetics and transgenic materials. And it examines how interactions with other beings shape our existence.

As a mixed genre, science-driven anthology film, “Chimera Experiments” is the first its kind.

Chapters will be produced in diverse formats ranging from animation to performance, but each will share common elements:

Filmmakers are encouraged to apply by visiting ChimeraExperiments.comor emailing film@labocine.com.

The deadline to submit an application is February 15.

If selected, filmmakers will be invited to present their chapter at the 10th Anniversary Imagine Science Film Festival in New York City in October 2017.

The feature film will then tour the world, playing at film festivals and scientific institutions, before screening as a series on Labocine.com.

“A wiser intelligence might now truthfully say of us at this point: here is a chimera, a new and very odd species come shambling into our universe, a mix of Stone Age emotion, medieval self-image, and godlike technology.” — E.O. Wilson
