Description

I was in Prospect Park and I extracted water from the lakeshore to see it later through the microscope! Here's a glimpse at my process and findings in text and images.

Appreciate the Prospect Park is home to Brooklyn's only freshwater lake! I decided to go on a late July evening to the shore of the lakewater and collect some pondscum. Within this dusk waters lurks an invisible world, alive with an amazing variety of microscopic creatures. They're beating to the sound of the music not too far in the bandshell. You can find the summer dancers: simple life large worm-like parasites, great oxygen-producers like algae, all kinds of alien-like protozoans, and cute microscopic animals like water bears.
