A scene from "Sounds of the 20th Century: Usmanbaş", an upcoming non-fiction film on music and sound. At the age of 102, Turkey's foremost living composer is older than the Republic itself, having been born during the Ottoman era. In the 1950s, Usmanbaş was part of a small but influential group of modernist composers, and continuously strove to create 20th century music, while others were still admiring classical music from past centuries. In this interview, he sits still for hours, recounting his century-long story, yet his hands remain constantly excited and energetic. And our camera never leaves them.
