3D imaging of blood vessels and atherosclerotic plaques in mice

The sample was prepared using the AdipoClear tissue clearing protocol and the images was acquired with a lightsheet microscope. Anti-CD31 staining (green) is used to identify the plaque surface in three dimensions. A surface is thenreconstructed based on CD31 mean fluorescence intensity (lighter colors indicate higher signal) and the spatial relationship to the acellular core (blue) is demonstrated. Lastly, a reconstruction of the brachiocephalic vessel wall (white) is displayed and illustrates the spatial relationship between plaque surface, acellular core and the brachiocephalic artery.
