About

Arthur de Oliveira is a filmmaker, poet, artist and theater practitioner from Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. Over the past 18 years, Arthur has been traveling between the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he is based in, and Brazil. Arthur’s travel and varied cultural exposure have sparked his interest in multidisciplinary art forms that create hybrid art pieces much like the multicultural environment he was raised in. Arthur’s storytelling is focused on contemporary issues that investigate the consequences of globalization on the individual level.

Arthur has a B.A. in Film and New Media and Theater from New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). He has also been a member of the Jameel Youth Assembly in 2020 where he created and curated work with other creatives in the UAE.

He is currently a fellow at the Cultural Foundation, Abu Dhabi, making a series of new works around the theme of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Arthur explores the global cultural, historical, and social impact of the sport on individual lives, from Japan to Brazil to the UAE, through an approach of Brazilian craft and shibumi (渋み) . Arthur’s work has been exhibited at the NYUAD Arts Centre and Jameel Arts Centre.
