Layers successively overlap on top of each other. The more one digs, the further back in time one gets. The geological layering of portions of earth allow one to travel back in time. But the selection, the choice of which layer deserves to be looked at is nothing but political. To blind oneself to one of them, to erase it from the narrative, is to exploit the past to justify the present.

The Sun and the Looking Glass is an essay-film which paints a portrait of a place on a hill above Ein Qiniya, a Palestinian village in the West Bank, with two houses from the late Ottoman period. Looking at the objects uncovered during renovations through a magnifying lens, the film performs the creation of narratives, through dynamic processes of revelation and disappearance.
